It was a great way to spend a couple of hours and I've finally been to the home of the place that produces that ice cream that my dad loved so much.

Not sure what's up with that or why it's there. There is also a display of Texas high school baseball coaches. But we found a couple of chairs and shared a table with some other folks. There were lots of tables to sit at but there were a lot of people too and that area was full. I had cinnamon and it was superb! My wife had the chocolate almond mocha. And these are BIG scoops! Also, they have some flavors that aren't sold in the store. There is also a gift shop and, the best part is where you can buy ice cream by the scoop for $1 a scoop. Then we walked over to the other side of the plant to where you can watch the creamery in operation making and packaging ice cream from an elevated observation area (behind glass). Apparently a lot of people have as good a taste in ice cream as we do! We started in the museum side and there are a lot of old photographs, displays tracking the history of the brand through the years, etc. When we got there, on a Friday, it was packed. I used to joke that when he stopped eating Blue Bell, they'd notice a drop in sales. He ate a huge bowl every single night for most of the 15+ years he lived with us up until about a year ago. My dad recently passed away and he loved his Blue Bell. After visiting some friends in Bryan/College Station, we were going to head home but I just had to make a detour to finally see where the magic happens.
